Clearwater Park

This sketch is of a little side channel that runs alongside the McKenzie Willamette River in Springfield.

The painting was done with oil on Arches paper. It's the first time I've used this paper and I love it. It's perfect for me for plein air painting. I've recently been experimenting with a limited palette, using five neighboring hues on the color wheel. The primary color for this painting is yellow, with green and orange secondary colors.

Peaceful scene painted with a subtle color harmony.
Even your brushwork is more subtle. Is that the surface you were working on? The paper?
Anyway, it is a lovely combination.

Thank you, Julie. I think the paper did make a difference in the brushwork. I found it to be a little easier to work on, which surprised me.
